Blessed Samhain and Happy Halloween!

May the coming year be filled with many reasons to rejoice!

There is often a purpose to people coming into and out of our lives, so it's very likely that, yes, we were meant to meet and friend each other. *grin*

Major suckage being stuck in hostile territory, though. And, yeah, I've gotten many mixed messages reading the Bible. Trying to have them make sense in my brain relies on serious interpretation of Biblical stories as folklore. Not every Christian is happy with that idea, though, on the other hand, many are.

Yeah, it used to be hard, now it's just like second nature... I feel like a sellout but I work in a rural, conservative Christian community. Hell, we're so conservative, we's got us some Amish! I live in the "cool town" about 25 minutes from the small town where I teach thank goodness, but I do have to "play along" a lot it seems. But you know what? One of my favorite students is a super Jesus Freak, but he's a really nice, really smart kid who I think believes most of the good stuff out of the bible (like racism is bad, we're all equal in God's eyes). But if they ever found out and I didn't deny it or come up with some kind of cover story, I'd probably have to quit because of all the rumors and gossip. They obviously couldn't fire me, but I'd probably quit due to the overwhelming negativity, kind of like when gay teachers come out.

Yeah, I can understand not wanting to deal with the social fallout. Whilst I was in the UK, I tended to keep my faith hidden from most I dealt with, though it did buy a little street cred with the goths. *chuckle*
