All is (relatively) well...
Aug. 23rd, 2004 11:33 amI called the office early this morning and found out I was, for the most part, stressing for nothing (dammit). Essentially, my paperwork had been approved by the embassy but they lost it somewhere. I have to come in pretending to be a tourist and then, when the paperwork finally gets through, I apply for an extended leave within the country. And I've been assured that this will all be dealt with before I start work. So, aside from having to take all of my teaching stuff out of my luggage to mail it and having to pretty much lie to customs officials about the purpose of my trip, all is well. Blech!
Aside from the stress, the weekend was quite pleasant. Yesterday was spent with friends (MoonSmile and Amberheart for those who know them) on Ward's Island viewing the most amazing little community. It was a village of little cottages nestled in amongst trees and vegetations. The roads and boulevards consisted pretty much of sidewalks. The tranquility of the place was astounding. And, not only was it mere feet from a beach, it was less than a ten minute ferry ride from downtown Toronto. Just amazing! And, yes, I'm considering putting my name on the ten year waiting list to try and purchase a home there.
The evening was spent with other friends (recently made via internet) talking, touring about (at one point unintentionally (dang right turn when it should have been a left!)), and indulging in more Thai food.
The warmth of my friends, both new and old, is just astounding! I've been given three offers of places to stay should the England thing go belly up. I am richly blessed!
Yes, I am most certainly falling in love with Toronto...
