Today has been a productive day, in a fashion. It started off with a trek to tutor my ESL client. That was about the only high priority thing that I've accomplished. The rest has been, well of lower priority in terms of satisfying immediate needs, the "C" tasks as it were, but I'm glad to have gotten 'em done anyhow.

Instead of taking the bus all the way, I walked the longest leg of the journey home to get a bit of exercise while, ironically, indulging in a DQ Blizzard. Cold dessert was a good call for a walk in the heat.

Other little tasks included a bit of e-mail correspondence, phoning a few relatives I hadn't spoken to in a while, finally getting ahold of my father for Father's Day, clarifying my position with roommates about potential future living arrangements, and replacing the music in my MP3 player (been listening to the same set of stuff for two or three weeks now). The phone call to Dad was a good thing; aside from catching up on things, he agreed to help me out if I needed airfare to travel to a teaching job in another country. That opens my options a fair bit. While I still won't likely go to Japan (as I'd need about $3,000 CDN up front for airfare and initial living expenses for the first month before I got paid and I don't want to ask him for that much), that will let me include potential plans for travel to the UK.

I'm rather torn about the prospect of teaching in another country. While the thought of adventure in a foreign land is fueling both my imagination and desire to explore other cultures, I'm not sure yet that I really want to leave Victoria, which I have come to love. Besides, I would also be leaving behind most of my support network. After the last several years of stress and chaos, I would actually like to stabilize for a year or so before slamming through my comfort bubble again. Unfortunately, the job scene on the island and the lower mainland will not let me do that. The only teaching I will get in this neck of the woods, for the next couple years at least, will be whatever substitute teaching and tutoring I can wrangle up, which is a fair bit more tenuous of an existence than I was hoping for. Ah well! The future will present itself as it comes.

Soon I'll be headed out to a Litha ceremony at the local university Pagan club. It'll be good to renew ties among my faith community. I haven't been in touch for about two months.

Happy Solstice, in whatever way you celebrate it (if you do)!
