The nines nearly broke me today. I lost control of that class. The most I was able to manage, in a fifty minute class, was to have them copy down the objectives for the lesson. And the systems for dealing with the completely out of hand students were not in place today. Normally, if a student becomes more than a handful, you shuffle him off to the head of department or assistant head who will then deal with him. Unfortunately, neither were available during last period today. At one point I had eight kids out doing essays in an empty adjoining room but still couldn't get the rest of them under control. And the tens were not much better. Today I really felt like I was failing the small handful of students in both classes who genuinelly wanted to learn. (sigh...)

It was a small handful of things that kept this from being a "one year day." My sevens and eights are going quite smoothly. And the eights who were a bit of a handful last half term have improved quite a bit. I've also really bonded with many members of my form. One of them even gave me a "thank you" card this morning (yes, this would be "Robby" from an earlier tale). I had to laugh; "Robby" had recently discovered that I was pagan and, in consideration of my beliefs, had scratched out the Biblical reference to Psalm 73:28, in small print, found on the inside cover of the card (chuckle).

Still, it was a rough day. The weekend cannot come soon enough!

Psalm 73 and Paganism?

I think he's under the mistaken impression that, as a pagan, I would bear an animosity towards Christianity.
