Yep, the posting time is right.
Sep. 21st, 2005 12:11 pmIt's about a quarter past 12 and I'm at home instead of school. Today, I've done something I haven't done all of my teaching career to date: I've taken a day off school sick.
I had picked up a bit of a cold on the weekend, but thought I had it dealt with by Tuesday morning, when I woke up without any symptoms and feeling quite refreshed. This morning was a far different matter. I remember dreaming about coughing a lot (not a good sign). Then I woke up with my respiratory track in a state of rebellion. As per usual though, I held off my decision to stay home or not until I was through with my shower, after which I usually feel better on such occasions. After hacking up various bits of my anatomy throughout it, and feeling worse off because of it, I decided that a day of rest would make good sense, especially given how full on the latter part of my week is.
After a bit of rest (and finishing off quite an enjoyable novel (Maggie Fury's Harp of Winds from The Artefacts of Power series)), I'm feeling better and contemplating a short journey to a)get some more cough medicine, b) get some comfort food and c) finally register with the local doctor's office already.
Aside from all that, life is fine. Some of my classes are a pain in the ass, but I'm still generally better off than I was at the previous school. I'm also feeling more at home with the new school.
'Course, I'm still trying to sort out what's to be done with my two lots of year 11s for IT, as we're in the midst of trying to clean up a hideous mess from last year that resulted in most members of those classes getting jack all done, but, as the entire IT department is just as clueless as to what to do about it as I am, I'm at least in good company (chuckle). Hopefully, we'll have it all sorted out before the arrival of the inspectors of the local education authority that'll will be stopping by to visit some time early next month (ugh!). I hafta say, the mutually shared mayhem has certainly led to a "brothers-in-arms" kinda feeling for me.
Yep, despite the chaos and my protesting respiratory system, life is good.
