It's been a few weeks since I've last dreamt of being in front of a class. I guess it says something about how much my experiences in the UK affected my will to teach, and confidence in doing so, that I've had bad dreams about it for months after leaving.

This time, though, the dream wasn't one where everything went wrong. Instead, it was one where I was co-teaching and/or sharing a class with another teacher and we talked about casual stuff - "Please don't erase those names; those are my detentions," "We should get some more board markers."

Although, in my dream, I was, again, unprepared for the lesson (a recurring theme in such dreams), I actually decided that I was going to ahead with my introduction to poetic interpretation unit using 'Big Bad John'. I'm not sure WHY I was going to be teaching poetry to a class full of adult technical support consultants, but I do remember feeling really enthusiastic about doing it.

*silly grin*

I'm glad that you are feeling better about teaching. I obviously don't know what happened in the UK, but I'm really glad to hear that things are looking up in that manner! *hugs

Thanks! Just click on the tag 'wretches'; that'll give you a few hints as to why I refer to a year of teaching in the UK as a 'tour of duty'. *chuckle*

Dreams are very interesting. When I was in Karate I dreamed weekly about being in trouble and unable to defend myself. When I quit karate, the dreams stopped. I think you're starting to heal.

I wonder why you would dream of not being able to defend yourself whilst you were learning how to? Interesting!

Odd, hey? I would be hitting and hitting and hitting the person, and it wouldn't even phase them. It was horrible.

Weird. Why were you studying Karate?

@1GR -

When I very young, I was learning how to swim and I had the most horrible nightmares. One night I dreamed I dived off a board and the pool was bottomless. It really freaked me out.

I'm not sure at what age I stopped lessons or why. Oddly enough, I don't remember.

I don't think your karate dreams where negative; dreams tend to be a part of the subconscious so perhaps it was a reflection of what you were feeling at the time? Helpless?

How interesting that you dreamed of teaching. Could it be you are missing it on some level?

Years after I left school, I dreamed about it and in vivid detail too. I also dreamed about my apt in London for many years after I left; some dreams repetitive and some not.

Yeah, I think I'm missing London, too. Last night, I had a dream where I was going on a short, two day trip to London with my parents and one other couple (originally a set of ex-friends and then the grandparents on my father's side). I was supposed to be the 'tour guide' for them. I remember my mother was paying hideous amounts for accomodation, BY THE HOUR, whilst I was trying to convince her that there were MUCH cheaper accomodations. *chuckle*
